Inaugural Grand Three Minute Challenge crowns best of the best grad student presenters by Taylor Young Sway Pradhan made the most of her last-minute opportunity to enter the Oklahoma State University Graduate College’s first President’s Fellows’ Grand Three Minute Challenge competition April 14.
Pradhan, a master’s student in microbiology, cell and molecular biology, won first place and $2,000 for her presentation, “Fungi and Bacteria for Biofuels: Helps or Hurts?” Pradhan, who had placed sixth in the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) in March, only learned of her chance to compete in 3MC the morning of the competition following the withdrawal of one of the finalists. Staff Profile: Emily Forshee is dedicated to helping students
by Taylor Young  Before joining the Oklahoma State University Graduate College staff in January of 2015, Emily Forshee was an OSU cowboy studying apparel merchandising in the College of Human Sciences. She graduated with her bachelor’s degree in May of 2014.
“I graduated from OSU, so it holds a special place in my heart,” Forshee said about her choice to work for OSU’s Graduate College. Today, Forshee is an admissions specialist. She is responsible for assisting domestic and international students with the admissions process. In addition to her work with students, she works closely with OSU graduate program faculty and staff on graduate admissions. Read More
Ph.D. student awarded OSU's first Doris Duke Fellowship
by Taylor Young  Jennifer Daer Shields, an Oklahoma State third-year clinical psychology Ph.D. student, was recently awarded a $60,000 Doris Duke Fellowship for the Promotion of Child Well-Being from Chapin Hall, a research and policy center, at the University of Chicago. The award is designed to find and develop a new generation of leaders dedicated to and capable of creating practice and policy innovations that will enhance child development and improve the nation’s ability to prevent child abuse and neglect.

GPSGA honors student, faculty with Phoenix Award  The Graduate Professional Student Government Association (GPSGA) presented Meagan Scott (above), a Ph.D. student in the Department of Agricultural Education, with the doctoral student Phoenix Award April 15, the highest honor given to an OSU graduate student. The association also honored faculty member Dr. Shelia M. Kennison with the faculty Phoenix Award. Kennison, director of the Cognitive Science Laboratory in the Department of Psychology, and Scott were recognized at the annual spring Graduate College awards ceremony sponsored by the college and the GPSGA.

Graduate College honors students for service and scholarly achievement Oklahoma State University graduate students were recognized with awards presented by the Graduate College April 15 during the college’s annual spring awards ceremony. Graduate Research Excellence awards recognize outstanding accomplishments reflected in master’s theses or doctoral dissertations. Recipients received a letter of commendation from OSU President Burns Hargis and a commemorative plaque from Vice President for Research Kenneth Sewell.

Ph.D. chemistry students win awards at ACS meeting
by Taylor Young Oklahoma State’s graduate program in chemistry had an excellent showing at the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) 56th Pentasectional Meeting April 9 in Bartlesville, Okla. at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Wesley Honeycutt (above right), a doctoral candidate in chemistry, was awarded first place and $350 for his poster and presentation. The Oklahoma Journal Record recently published an article about Bryan Sheehan, a civilian employee at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, who graduated from OSU in May after completing his Doctor of Education in Applied Educational Studies with the aviation and space specialization. He credited his success, in part, to OSU professor Dr. Timm Bliss, a member of the faculty in the College of Education aviation and space program.
